The trade that sent Gary Matthews Jr. to Flushing and Brian Stokes to Anaheim actually turned out to be an ok move. The Angels will pay all but $2 million, which means the Mets have a 4th outfielder for 2 years and 2 mil. That’s less than Alex Cora. I think that’s less than Brian Stokes too.
I don’t see what the big deal is. We needed a guy to help Pagan until Beltran comes back. This is an inexpensive way to get it done. Once Beltran returns, you have two more than capable outfielders ready off the bench.
They can’t all be big moves. The small moves need to happen too. Without depth we end up like we did last season. And I’m sure if they could’ve unloaded Castillo they would have at this point.
Now if we can just sign some pitching….
